They thought it was a rock...

A sea fan, in all its glory. So you're probably wondering about the "Rock Lobster" references in my blog. Mostly it was because I couldn't think of any other theme. Also it was because the song "Rock Lobster" by the B-52's (yes, Jenna, I'm aware they're from Athens) refers to sea fans in the lyrics...

"...Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to the mermen.
Wavin' sea fans,
Sea horses sailing,
Dolphins wailing..."

And sea fans, as you may not know, are the animals that I am currently studying for my Master's work. They're purple. Who else can say they're studying a purple animal? Not you, I'll bet.

They look like plants, but they're not. They're corals, and therefore they are colonial--a sea fan is basically a big purple condominum for a bunch of tiny, jellyfish-like creatures. How freaking cool is that?

Anyway, now you know why I've chosen "Rock Lobster" as my theme song. Until next time.
